In Salesforce, an “org” refers to a specific instance of the Salesforce platform that is used by an organization.

An org is a unique environment that is used to manage an organization’s data, processes, and workflows.

There are several types of orgs in Salesforce, including:

  1. Production org: This is the main org that an organization uses to manage its data and processes. It is the live environment that is used by users to access and manage data.
  2. Sandbox org: A sandbox org is a copy of a production org that is used for testing and development purposes. It allows developers to test changes and new features without impacting the live environment.
  3. Developer org: A developer org is a free, standalone org that is used by developers to build and test custom applications and integrations.
  4. Trial org: A trial org is a free, temporary org that is used by organizations to evaluate the Salesforce platform before making a purchase. different trial Orgs are available for different Salesforce products.
  5. Trailhead org: A Trailhead org is a free, standalone org that is used by users to learn and practice Salesforce skills through the Trailhead platform. It is a sandbox org that is pre-configured with sample data and features that allow users to complete hands-on challenges and earn badges.

Each org has its own unique set of data, processes, and workflows. Orgs can be customized to meet the specific needs of an organization and can be integrated with other Salesforce features, such as reports, dashboards, and flows.

Some companies have multiple orgs to manage separate parts of their business (i.e. Separating Sales and Fulfillment and Support functions), while some focus on a single org and build it out to fully meet their needs.
